Landeskrankenhaus Feldkirch, OP-Spange Süd

As a reliable partner of the Vorarlberger Krankenhausbetriebsgesellschaft (Vorarlberg hospital management association), Jäger Bau is now working on the largest building construction project to date in the region of Vorarlberg in a consortium. Our company has been entrusted with the technical management of this development project.

The regional hospital in Feldkirch is being expanded with a three-storey addition featuring a total surface of approx. 11,000 sqm. It will house 12 new operating rooms, a new intensive care unit, as well as additional medical spaces. The current operating rooms will relocate to the new Spange Süd building, while the surfaces freed up will be used for outpatient and functional areas.

The requirements set for the construction companies involved are high: 15,000 cubic metres of excavated materials must be handled, of which 6,000 cubic metres are existing rock excavation. 6,500 cubic metres of in-situ concrete and 650 tons of structural steel will be applied. Some of the walls will be made using barite concrete to ensure radiation protection. This heavyweight concrete is approx. 40% heavier than standard concrete.

To ensure smooth ongoing surgery activities and internal hospital relocation, the addition will be implemented in several phases; therefore the construction time will be relatively long.
